Resistant

change-300x209

Please don’t ask me to adjust
To cold winters
Brittle bone feelings
After months of warmth
Summer thunderstorms
Preceded by balmy breezes

Please don’t ask me to ignore
The scorched earth beneath my feet
Desert heat swelling tongues
Panting through open mouths
Inhaling sandy shards of pain
After padding through blades of St Augustine
Deep, lush dew drop tinged
Cooling painted toes

Please don’t ask me to enjoy
Midnights that don’t end
Cold linens on bare skin
When I’ve known
Warm hands pressed together
Georgetown days that don’t last
Sunbeams peeking through clouded veils of sky

Please don’t ask me to accept
